Kasteel Engelenburg
Grand Dutch country estate — formal yet warm, history-soaked without being fusty. Antique furnishings, rich Nobilis and Designers Guild fabrics, moat views, and a bar holding over 250 single malts. Feels like staying in a private manor house, not a commercial hotel.

Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in the Netherlands with its own golf course, a nationally registered monument, and a whisky collection that won Best Whisky Collection in 2000. Restaurant JUDITH (Gault&Millau 14.5/20) operates in the original 19th-century glass conservatory with moat and fairway views. The castle is celebrating its 450th anniversary in 2025.
A 50-hectare neoclassical estate on the edge of the Veluwe, with a history stretching back to 1570. The current manor house — a protected national monument — was transformed into its present form in 1828 and has been a hotel since 1988. Forty-one rooms spread across three historic outbuildings, a moat, a Donald Steel-designed 9-hole golf course, a seriously stocked whisky bar, and a Gault&Millau-rated restaurant. It's a full package in a genuinely beautiful rural setting.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A Donald Steel-designed 9-hole, par-72 course set in the historic parkland of the 50-hectare estate. Tee off from a 400-year-old icehouse surrounded by centuries-old trees. Tee times are spaced every 10 minutes and you won't be grouped with other flights — unusually relaxed for a hotel course. Both beginners and experienced golfers can play. A golf school with clinics, lessons, and beginner programs is on site.
Lessons and group clinics for all levels, combinable with brunch, lunch, or dinner packages. Beginner-friendly.
Traditional afternoon tea served in the castle. Bookable as a standalone experience.
Guided whisky tasting led by in-house expert Jurgen Luppes, covering a selection of single malts from the 250+ bottle collection, paired with carefully chosen snacks. Minimum 10 participants.
Exclusive wine tastings hosted in the historic castle cellar, curated by the sommelier with a focus on the South African and European collection.
Rental bicycles available on property. The Veluwezoom and IJssel valley offer excellent cycling routes directly from the estate gates.
Direct access to the Veluwezoom National Park trail network. Guided walks through the estate — including a tour of the 400-year-old icehouse — are offered as part of certain packages.
An augmented reality tour of the castle's history, included in the 450th Anniversary Package and some other curated packages.
