Palace Engelberg
Grand Swiss mountain resort with Belle Époque bones and a clean contemporary interior. Think parquet floors, brushed oak, wool upholstery, and caramel leather alongside crisp modern lines. The vibe is calm, formal-but-not-stuffy, with a strong sense of history — the 100-year-old Palace Bar still crackles with its original fireplace.
The Belle Époque Rooms have a unique circular floor plan — different from any standard alpine room. Worth requesting specifically.
Why It Matters
The only five-star superior hotel in Central Switzerland. The rooftop Kempinski The Spa at 880 sqm is a genuine highlight — glass-enclosed infinity pool with unbroken mountain views. The Cattani Restaurant's chef menus were featured on SWISS Airlines long-haul First and Business Class. Chalet Ruinart serves truffle-champagne fondue parkside in season.
A Belle Époque landmark originally built in 1904 as the Grandhotel Winterhaus, this is Engelberg's first and only five-star superior hotel. After a meticulous five-year restoration and expansion by owner Han's Europe AG, it reopened in 2021 fusing the original six-storey historic wing with a modern new annex. The result: 129 rooms and suites, a rooftop infinity pool with panoramic Alps views, and several restaurants — all at the foot of Mount Titlis in Central Switzerland's largest year-round resort.
