Book a sea-view room in the modern wing for the corner balcony and contemporary styling; choose the palace wing for original Austro-Hungarian character

Why It Matters

One of only a handful of five-star properties on the Slovenian coast, this is a designated Slovenian cultural monument that has hosted royalty, heads of state, Sophia Loren, Orson Welles, and Yul Brynner. The Crystal Hall ballroom, with original 1910 crystal chandeliers and gilded ceilings, is arguably the most spectacular breakfast room in the country.

Slovenia's most storied seaside address, the Palace Hotel opened in 1910 as the largest hotel on the Adriatic and has spent the last century hosting everyone from Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Sophia Loren. Behind its Habsburg façade sits a split personality: the original palace wing full of warm tones, stained glass, and gilded chandeliers, while the newer modern wing — added in 2008 — brings bold floor-to-ceiling windows, corner balconies, and pops of fuchsia and violet. The Rose Spa alone, at 1,500 sqm with connected saltwater pools, is worth a detour.

Laguna Suite – Sea View

One of only two rooftop suites, the Laguna is the headline room-with-a-wow-factor. An open-air Jacuzzi on the rooftop terrace and sea views over the Adriatic make it a legitimate honeymoon pick. At 60 sqm it's not cavernous, but the outdoor element more than compensates.
