Non-Soho House members need a £100 Soho Friends annual membership added per booking — book it in advance to save the surcharge on future stays

Why It Matters

One of London's oldest restaurants, with documented history stretching to 1867 and royal scandal baked in. The property spans seven interconnected Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses and is now operated by Soho House — though non-members are welcome as overnight guests (with a £100 Soho Friends membership fee added to the booking).

Kettner's started as a restaurant in 1867 — opened by Auguste Kettner, chef to Napoleon III — and it's one of the oldest in London. Oscar Wilde drank here. King Edward VII allegedly conducted an affair here via a secret tunnel to the Palace Theatre. It briefly became a Pizza Express (really). Now, under Soho House, the seven Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses have been restored to something approaching their original scandalous glory: a French bistro, a Champagne bar with its original sugar-cube mosaic floor, a live Piano Bar, and 33 bedrooms dripping in William Morris prints and velvet headboards.

Jacobean Suite
Suite

Jacobean Suite

The jewel of the house. Grade II-listed in its own right, with original Edwardian oak panelling, stuccoed ceilings, and a canopied emperor bed. The freestanding copper bath is an event in itself. There's a full dining area (seats six), a large velvet L-shaped sofa in the living room, twin sinks, a walk-in rainforest shower, and — crucially — its own private entrance from Greek Street. Was almost converted into Soho House's signature cinema before soundproofing issues killed the plan.
