Why It Matters
Kimpton's first hotel in Hungary, holding One MICHELIN Key, featured in Travel + Leisure's 100 Best New Hotels of 2025 and named best design hotel in Budapest 2025 by The Independent. Opened in 2024, Kimpton BEM Budapest took a grade-2 listed 19th-century mansion on the Buda side of the Danube and handed it to Dutch designer Marcel Wanders to do as he pleased. The result is 127 rooms and suites soaked in a cool-toned palette of blues and greens — inspired by Lake Balaton and Hungary's forests — with Hungarian mythological creatures and native flora stitched into every surface. It holds One MICHELIN Key and sits a short walk from the Castle District, Fisherman's Bastion, and the thermal baths. No pool, though, so factor that in if you're planning a long, sunny stay.
