Why It Matters

The building itself is the story: an adaptive reuse of a landmark 1916 Beaux-Arts temple with profound African-American cultural significance, now a LEED Silver-certified hotel. AAA 4-Diamond rated. Named #15 Best Dallas Hotel by U.S. News & World Report 2024 and a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2024 winner.

The Pittman is a 165-room boutique hotel in Dallas' Deep Ellum, built inside the restored 1916 Knights of Pythias Temple — the first commercial building in Dallas designed by and for African-American professionals. Architect William Sidney Pittman, son-in-law of Booker T. Washington, designed the original Beaux-Arts structure. Today, that century-old brick facade wraps around a LEED Silver-certified modern interior full of local art, clean lines, and pops of dark green, orange, and gray. Blues legends Blind Lemon Jefferson and Sam 'Lightnin'' Hopkins once performed in the fourth-floor ballroom; now that same energy spills out to the pool deck where live music plays around a communal fire pit.
