Kinugawa Keisui
Modern ryokan. Clean lines, organic materials, warm and contemporary interiors. The hotel leans hard into sustainability — 100% renewable electricity, building materials sourced from local stone, firewood from thinned local forests. Quiet, intimate, and deliberate rather than flashy.

Why It Matters
1 Michelin Key recipient in both 2024 and 2025. One of the most exclusive small properties in the Nikko/Kinugawa region with only 10 public rooms. The restaurant 炅 (Kei) has become a destination in itself, with wood-fired gastronomy built around local producers and fermentation. Opened December 2022 as the 6th property in the premium VIALA series.
Kinugawa Keisui sits right on the edge of the Kinugawa gorge, part of the Tokyu Harvest Club VIALA portfolio. Of its 58 total rooms, only 10 are open to the general public — the rest are reserved for club members. Every single room comes with a private open-air onsen bath on the balcony, pulling water from the hotel's own spring source. The concept restaurant 炅 (Kei) cooks everything over a wood-fired Oyaishi-stone kiln with zero gas, using locally sourced ingredients from North Kanto and Tohoku producers.
