Book the free tuk-tuk to Kahanda Kanda for dinner at least once — the rice and curry there is excellent and the lake setting is a complete contrast

Why It Matters

Opened in 2016 by award-winning interior designer George Cooper, KK Beach is one of the south coast's most design-forward boutique properties. It sits on a 2km stretch of beach that has no other boutique hotels on it, giving it a rare sense of private-beach exclusivity. The complimentary tuk-tuk shuttle linking it to sister property Kahanda Kanda is a smart touch — guests can split a Sri Lanka stay between lakeside tea-estate and beachfront without losing continuity.

Ten rooms, one long stretch of golden sand, and a 20-metre pool separating you from the Indian Ocean. KK Beach is the coastal sibling of Kahanda Kanda — same owner (British designer George Cooper), same taste level, completely different setting. Where Kahanda Kanda sits quietly above a tea-edged lake, KK Beach plants itself directly on Habaraduwa's wide, relatively uncrowded beach, just 12km from Galle Fort. The interiors lean into a New England-meets-Sri-Lanka nautical palette: polished concrete floors, indigo-and-white fabrics, and bold contemporary art by local artists — all of which is for sale. It's compact by design, not by accident.
