Kumarakom Lake Resort is a five-star heritage property spread across 25 acres right on the edge of Lake Vembanad — one of India's most celebrated backwater destinations. What makes it genuinely different from your average luxury resort is the architecture: over a hundred ancestral Kerala homesteads (called manas) were purchased from across the state, dismantled plank by plank, and painstakingly reassembled here to create the villas and suites. Same authentic heritage architecture as the lake-view category, but oriented towards the resort's landscaped gardens and lotus-strewn canals rather than the lake itself. Houseboat
Traditional Kerala kettuvalloms (rice barges) fitted with modern amenities and moored on Lake Vembanad. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a fixed menu are included with houseboat stays. This is the only accommodation option at the resort that actually puts you on the water. Multiple configurations available — check directly with the resort for current cabin counts.

Luxury Pavilion Room
The most accessible entry point at the resort, though 'entry point' is relative here. Pavilion rooms are generously proportioned, set amidst foliage within the resort grounds, and finished with the same heritage aesthetic as the villas. En-suite bathroom with Jacuzzi is standard. Good option for solo travellers or couples who want the heritage experience without paying villa premiums.
Meandering Pool Duplex Villa
Two-storey villas set along the resort's unusual 250-metre meandering pool, which winds through the eastern part of the property. The duplex format puts the opulent sitting room on the ground floor and the bedroom upstairs, with both floors looking out over the pool and surrounding greenery. Each villa has a private alcove opening directly onto the pool.
Meandering Pool Villa
Single-storey villas arrayed along the same 250-metre meandering pool, each with a private bathing cove and sit-out that opens directly onto the water. Traditional Kerala styling throughout. The meandering pool itself is the resort's clever alternative to a conventional lap pool — it curves and winds through the landscape rather than sitting in a rectangle.
Presidential Suite with Private Pool
The flagship accommodation — and the resort means it. Each Presidential Suite has its own private infinity pool overlooking Vembanad Lake, a private courtyard, and regal interiors with antique wooden detailing that genuinely evoke an older era of Kerala aristocracy. 55-inch LED TVs, premium toiletries, cotton bathrobes, in-room safe, mini bar, personal working desk, and a private sit-out are all standard.
