Why It Matters
One of the very few genuinely design-led hotels in the Blue Mountains. The Michelin Guide flags it as the standout regional example of Australia's motel-renovation moment. Blaq restaurant — with its hyper-local seasonal menu and a wine list curated by master sommelier Andrés Aragón — regularly earns praise as some of the best food in the mountains. And it sits right on the doorstep of Blackheath's Grand Canyon walking track.
A 1970s motel in the Blue Mountains town of Blackheath that's been gutted and rebuilt from the inside out with Palm Springs-inspired design. Sydney firm MKD Architects gave it a monochrome facade, accentuated curves, pastel hallways, and earthy tones. Forty-six rooms across three wings — each named after one of the Three Sisters — plus a genuinely excellent restaurant (Blaq) and more activities than you'd expect from a former roadside motel.

Designed specifically for families who actually want a smidge of privacy. A master king room connects via a short corridor to a separate room with a triple bunk. The King Room
Entry-level room for couples or solo travellers. Motel-heritage layout means parking right at the door and direct external entry — no lobby walk. Upgraded version of the Two Bedroom with a spacious dedicated lounge area. The bathroom has a full bath — the only room type at Kyah that does. Feels notably more like a suite than the standard two-bedroom configuration. Good for couples traveling together or a small family wanting extra comfort.
