Why It Matters
Home to MAPA, the first and now Michelin-starred restaurant in the Alentejo region. The Sky View suites have a retractable ceiling above the bed so guests can literally sleep under the stars. The estate produces its own organic wine, and guests can make their own blend at the winery. Designed by the same architect behind São Paulo's Fasano Hotel.
L'AND Vineyards opened in 2011 on a 66-hectare estate 4 km outside Montemor-o-Novo, with the ruins of a medieval castle visible on the hill above the lake. The architecture — a series of low-slung white volumes by Promontório and Brazilian architect Márcio Kogan (Studio MK27) — looks like it landed from another planet in the middle of cork oak and vine country. Thirty-five suites and nine private pool villas, a Michelin-starred restaurant, an 800m² vinotherapy spa, and six hectares of organic vineyard make this a full-on wine resort, not just a hotel with a wine list.

The newest accommodation units, from 140–180 sqm across 2 or 3 bedrooms, with direct access to the lake. Open-plan living and kitchen flow directly to a private pool and patio with an exterior fireplace. Interior decoration features pieces made by local Alentejo craftsmen. Fully equipped kitchen makes these genuinely self-contained.

Land View Suite
From 90 sqm, available in 1- or 2-bedroom configurations (some reaching 120 sqm). Designed by Márcio Kogan with the same wood and natural stone palette as the Sky Suites, but with garden or patio views instead of sky-view. Private patio with outdoor fireplace, spacious living room. The 2-bedroom version sleeps four and is popular with families traveling together.

Sky View Junior Suite
75 sqm set lakeside with the sky-view bedroom feature — the ceiling opens above the bed for stargazing. Private terrace with outdoor fireplace, connected sitting area. More compact than the Premium, but still beautifully executed in wood and natural stone. No plunge pool.

The flagship room. 120 sqm designed by Márcio Kogan, with a retractable ceiling above the bed so you sleep directly under the Alentejo night sky. Private indoor patio has a plunge pool and outdoor fire pit. Wood and natural stone throughout. King bed, freestanding bathtub, rain shower, separate living area, and a terrace with fireplace. The fire is lit by staff each evening.

Villa Arinto
The largest offering: 270 sqm with 4 bedrooms, its own private vineyard, and a heated outdoor infinity pool with a swim-against-current kit. The living room opens entirely to the outside and landscape. Features an outdoor wood oven and barbecue alongside the fireplace. Private chef and dedicated butler available on request. Sleeps 8 across two queen-bed and two twin-bed rooms.

Guided rides through the estate's vineyards, olive groves, and around the L'AND residences with the Montemor-o-Novo castle as a backdrop. Various routes and difficulty levels available.

One-hour flight departing from L'AND Vineyards, gliding over the rolling Alentejo plains and vineyard landscape at sunrise or sunset. Must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Weather-dependent — confirmation given up to 12 hours before flight. Cancellation requires 48-hour notice to avoid fees.
Hands-on winemaking session at the estate cellar. Guests learn about Alentejo grape varieties (Alicante, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Syrah), taste each one's characteristics, and blend their own personalized bottle.
Structured courses covering Alentejo grape varieties, biodynamic viticulture, and wine production principles held at the resort cellar and tasting room.
Guided tours of the estate cellar and winery, plus curated tastings of L'AND wines and regional Alentejo labels. Also includes organized visits to small, specially selected wineries in the region.
Alentejo sits within a certified Dark Sky Reserve of approximately 10,000 square kilometres. Guests join professional astronomers with a powerful telescope for a guided evening session. Also possible from within the Sky View suites' retractable ceilings.
