L’Andana
Historic Tuscan estate meets quietly confident luxury. Think Sunday-morning intimacy rather than grand hotel formality. Guests tend to linger at the pool all afternoon, order breakfast from the kitchen cook's shoulder, and wander the olive groves between spa visits.
Book La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini well in advance — it's dinner-only, closed Mondays, and runs only mid-May to end of September
Why It Matters
A former ducal estate with a Michelin-starred restaurant (La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini), a 600+ sqm ESPA spa, estate-produced wine and olive oil, and 61 rooms spread across multiple distinct buildings — all on 500 acres of Maremma countryside, just 15 minutes from the Tyrrhenian coast.
L'Andana sits on the 500-hectare Tenuta La Badiola estate, once the summer residence of Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany. That lineage shows: you arrive down a half-mile driveway lined with cypresses and umbrella pines, and the whole place carries the quiet authority of somewhere that has always been exceptional. The interior design — all warm ochre, Florentine silks, and Tuscan stone fireplaces — was overseen by Ettore Mocchetti, Chief Editor of AD Italy, which keeps things elegant without tipping into pomposity.
