L’EssenCiel - Château des Pères
Retro-futurist architecture meets Breton countryside. Minimalist interiors, strong art programme, and serious gastronomy. The vibe is creative and contemplative — more art residency than château getaway.

Why It Matters
Awarded 3rd most unusual hotel in the world at the Hotel & Spa Lodge Awards upon opening in 2023. Holds a One Michelin Star at La Table des Pères. The hotel's bubble-on-branches concept is patented and unique in France, designed by Agence d'Architecture Unité for Groupe Legendre owner Jean-Paul Legendre.
A 4-star hotel on a 31-hectare estate whose roots stretch back to the 12th century — but L'EssenCiel is nothing like what that description implies. The hotel itself is a patented architectural statement: a concrete structure shaped like a monumental tree, with 36 pod-like rooms suspended from its branches at heights up to 28 metres. Six more rooms sit on the ground for those who'd rather not dangle over the Breton countryside. Rooms are 26m², all essentially identical, done in a warm minimalist palette. And behind the hotel: a Michelin-starred restaurant, a 300m² spa, 60+ monumental sculptures, and working artists' studios.
