L'Hôtel Particulier, Arles
White-on-white Provençal elegance. Think 18th-century architectural bones with very deliberate contemporary interiors — linen sofas, Barcelona chairs, marble writing desks. Quiet and private, feels more like staying in a very chic townhouse than a hotel.

Why It Matters
One of the only true hôtels particuliers (freestanding private mansions) in central Arles available to stay in. Former residence of Baron de Chartrouse. Listed in the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels collection. Suites run to €549/night.
A grand 18th-century private mansion in Arles's oldest Roquette district, once owned by the Baron de Chartrouse. Push open the heavy gate and a walled garden appears — cypress trees, orange trees, sculpted box hedges, a strip of pool catching the Provence light. The house has been redecorated by owner Brigitte Pagés de L'Oliveira in a contemporary style that keeps the original romance intact: white-panelled rooms, gold-framed mirrors, oversized artwork, antique dressers. Breakfast is the main food event here — served under the trees in summer, in the dining room in winter — and there's no dinner restaurant on-site, but Arles has plenty just a short walk away.

A narrow, elegant pool set in the walled courtyard garden, flanked by candle lanterns and cushioned sun loungers. Best enjoyed May–September. No handrails — access via a metal ladder with three steps.
The hotel arranges 1- and 2-night golf packages at the 18-hole Servanes course located at the foot of the Alpilles. One of the best courses in Provence.
An on-site library for guests to read, relax, and unwind.
The hotel concierge can arrange a general walking tour of Arles or a dedicated Van Gogh tour tracing the painter's two-year stay in the city.
