L’Ovella Negra Mountain
Raw, pared-back mountain chic. Stone walls, dark oak floors, hanging chimney fireplace, velvet sofas, brass candlesticks. Rustic bones dressed with deliberate design objects. Communal, informal, and genuinely warm — less a hotel, more like staying at the home of someone with excellent taste and a well-stocked wine list.
In winter, leave your car at the Soldeu ski resort car park and wait for the snowcat — it's part of the experience, not an inconvenience
Why It Matters
One Michelin Key. A Design Hotels Original. Just four rooms, winter snowcat access only, and a chef who trained under Francis Mallman. It's one of the most remote and intimate small hotels in the Pyrenees — and the food genuinely punches above its weight.
Four rooms. One snowcat. That's what it takes to get to L'Ovella Negra — 'the black sheep' in Catalan — a stone-and-wood mountain lodge sitting at the end of Andorra's Incles Valley. Founded by Prisca Llagostera, who renovated a 2000s-era tractor barn into this micro-hotel in 2017, the place runs on a simple formula: good beds, great seasonal food, and the Pyrenees literally outside your door. No WiFi, no pool, no spa — and that's completely the point.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Two bikes are kept on-site free for guests to explore the valley or reach local restaurants without a car. Mountain bike trails of various levels are accessible from the property, and mountain bikes can be rented through trusted partner Skiz 1700.
For those who want the most dramatic arrival, the hotel can arrange a helicopter from Barcelona airport. Heli-skiing from the lodge is also possible for experienced skiers. Must be arranged in advance.
Trails of all levels start directly from the lodge. Staff give personalised recommendations or can arrange guided hikes with a local expert. Key routes include Cabana Sorda, Siscaró, Juclar, Fontargent, and Isla — covering peaks, rivers, mountain lakes, and ancient refuges.
Cozy reading nooks, a central fireplace, a curated selection of books, and board games. A drinks menu is ready. Especially popular in spring and autumn for slow, restorative days. The communal living space is designed to make strangers feel like they belong.
Summer Thursday nights at the Xiringuito outdoor restaurant (8pm–midnight) feature live music under the mountain sky. A genuinely communal experience — guests and passing hikers often end up sharing tables.
Snowshoes are available to borrow from the lodge at no charge. Same trail network as summer hiking — Cabana Sorda, Siscaró, Juclar, Fontargent, Isla. Guided snowshoe hikes can be organised through the lodge.
Grandvalira — the largest ski resort in southern Europe — is just 5km away. The lodge has strong connections with instructors and can arrange transport via snowcat 'La Fiera'. Off-piste skiing and ski touring are possible directly from the lodge for more experienced skiers. Heli-skiing and ski mountaineering can also be arranged. Ski rental recommended through Skiz 1700.
Summer yoga classes held outdoors in the valley, surrounded by the Pyrenees landscape. Seasonal event — check the lodge's events calendar for scheduled sessions.

There is no internet connection at the lodge. This is intentional — the property is designed as a total digital detox retreat.
Cooked-to-order breakfast included. Local platter with pa amb tomàquet, cheeses, charcuterie, jams, croissants, freshly squeezed OJ, and eggs on request. Served 8–10am daily.
In-room dining available for guests who prefer to eat privately. The informal team are happy to arrange this, though most guests tend to congregate in the communal canteen.
Gift vouchers available for purchase directly on the official website.
Outdoor garden with a spacious terrace and lawn set with relaxing armchairs. Prime spot for a drink after a hike, especially when the Xiringuito is open in summer.
Free parking available on-site during the summer months. In winter, guests park near Soldeu ski resort and are collected by snowcat.
The entire lodge can be booked exclusively for private groups. Enquire directly through the hotel website.
The lodge's snowcat — nicknamed 'La Fiera' — picks guests up from the Soldeu ski resort car park when winter snow blocks vehicle access to the valley. Complimentary and essential December through April. Advance booking required.
