La Fantaisie
Botanical maximalism meets Parisian art de vivre. Think Alice in Wonderland filtered through a 1970s Parisian townhouse: lots of pattern, floral frescoes, scalloped furniture, marble bathrooms, bespoke mosaics. The mood is joyful and deliberately unpretentious — 'casual luxury' is how the hotel describes it, and that's about right.
The Suite Terrace on the sixth floor is the property's iconic room — sweeping private terrace, Parisian rooftop views, freestanding bathtub beside a picture window. Worth the splurge if celebrating.
Why It Matters
Martin Brudnizki's first Paris hotel, operated by the boutique Leitmotiv group. One of the only five-star properties in central Paris with a true in-ground garden and a rooftop bar. The original restaurant was the first Paris outpost of three-Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn (that residency has since ended; the restaurant now runs under its own name with a French/international menu). First Michelin Key recipient.
La Fantaisie opened in 2023 on the lively, semi-pedestrian Rue Cadet in Paris's 9th arrondissement — and it landed with real intent. Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki (his first Paris hotel) filled the interiors with floral wallpapers, handcrafted mosaics, plush velvets, and a colour palette of soft greens, warm yellows, and pops of coral that somehow reads as joyful rather than fussy. The concept revolves around the garden: a rare full in-ground courtyard garden sits at the heart of the property, making this one of only a handful of five-star hotels in central Paris to pull that off. Add a Holidermie spa in the basement, a rooftop bar with Eiffel Tower and Sacré-Coeur views, and three dining spaces open to the public, and you have something that works as a neighbourhood hangout as much as a hotel. It has already earned its first Michelin Key.
