La Ferme Saint-Siméon
Aristocratic Norman farmhouse meets serious gastronomy. Heavy beams, chintz, stone fireplaces, and oil paintings. Feels lived-in and historic rather than sleek or contemporary. The vibe is intimate and genuinely steeped in art history, not just themed around it.
Book Les Impressionnistes well in advance — tables with estuary views disappear fast, and the restaurant only runs lunch 4 days a week.
Why It Matters
The actual gathering place where Monet, Boudin, Courbet, and others painted together in the 1850s–1870s, giving rise to the École de Honfleur (Saint-Siméon School) — considered a precursor to the Impressionist movement. Also the only 5-star property with a 2-Michelin-star restaurant in Normandy. Now celebrating its bicentenary.
La Ferme Saint-Siméon is a 17th-century Norman farmhouse that became the accidental birthplace of Impressionism. Monet, Boudin, Corot, and Jongkind all came here to paint the particular quality of light over the Seine estuary — and the hotel has never really let go of that story. Today it's a five-star Relais & Châteaux property celebrating its 200th year of hotel tradition in 2025, run by the Boelen family for three generations. Spread across three historic buildings (the Maison Historique, the Pavillon, and the former Pressoir), the 35 rooms lean into exposed beams, antique furniture, and that view over the estuary. The gourmet restaurant, Les Impressionnistes, holds 2 Michelin stars — the only five-star in Normandy to do so.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
An 18-hole golf course adjacent to the property, accessible to hotel guests.
Building on the bicentenary events of 2025, the hotel is continuing a program of lectures and cultural conferences in 2026, covering Impressionism, Norman heritage, and related topics.
A private ride through Honfleur in a period-appropriate horse-drawn carriage, guided by master rider Benoît Farain. The same kind of carriage that would have carried painters to and from the farm in the 19th century. Genuinely memorable rather than touristy.
The hotel's gardens feature apple trees, a rose garden, and a permaculture vegetable garden (which also houses the Spa Potager). Walking the grounds — especially with the estuary in the background — is a real pleasure and included in the stay.
An outdoor exhibition in the hotel's gardens tracing the Impressionist history of La Ferme Saint-Siméon through selected works and artist biographies. Open to the public.
2-hour watercolor and painting sessions taught by local artist Laurent on the hotel's grounds — the exact landscapes that inspired Monet and Boudin. Runs throughout the year for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Can be paired with a 4-course lunch at La Boucane as the 'Norman Impressionist Experience' package.
