Why It Matters
Built directly on top of a granite cave at the edge of Giglio Porto, with some spaces literally carved into the rock. It's one of the most design-considered properties in the Tuscan islands, owned and operated by people who actually live and love the island. Their 70-bottle wine list draws exclusively from small Mediterranean island producers.
La Guardia is a 27-room boutique hotel perched above an ancient granite cave at the end of Giglio Porto's harbour — one of the more remote corners of the Tuscan Archipelago. Opened in 2019 by former ad-world couple Flaminia Pérez del Castillo and Flavio Caprabianca, it's a complete renovation of a 1950s hotel, redesigned by an international team (Block722 from Greece-Norway, Rosario Magariños from Uruguay) into a clean, boho-chic coastal retreat. Micro-cement floors, cedarwood, natural textiles, and a plastic-free ethos throughout — it earns its ISO14001 environmental certification. No pool, but the private beach club is right below.

These rooms face outward like the bow of a ship — elevated balconies (3 sqm) with open sea views toward the Argentario. Natural light floods in all day. Even the bathroom has a window with a sea or cliff-terrace view. Third bed available in some rooms on request.

Only two of these exist in the whole hotel, and they are the closest you'll get to sleeping on the water. Direct beach access, a private terrace (18 sqm) with outdoor furniture, and the sound of the Tyrrhenian lapping against the rocks a few meters away. The standout feature is the shower — carved directly into natural rock, which is genuinely unlike anything else. Custom metal, cedarwood, and natural textile furnishings throughout.

The most affordable option and the only category without a sea view — windows look onto the hotel's dry garden with granite rocks, prickly pears, and the kitchen garden that supplies the restaurant.
