A renovated 4-star country relais tucked into the hills between Lake Como and Lake Lugano at roughly 900 metres elevation, La Locanda del Notaio is the personal project of owner Attilio Schiavetti — the notary who gives the place its name — and his wife Simonetta Manara, who oversaw the careful transformation of what was once a simple trattoria. Twenty rooms spread across four categories are personalised with woodwork throughout, and a sprawling 10,000-sqm private garden surrounds a small spring-water lake. The gourmet restaurant, run by young chef Marco Moretto and formerly Michelin-starred for a decade (2010–2020), remains the main draw for the wider dining public and is consistently praised as one of the best tables in northwest Italy.

The most affordable entry point at La Locanda. Same core aesthetic and en-suite setup as the Standard category. Does not accommodate extra beds. Rates from around €155/night based on third-party sources.
Deluxe
The mid-upper tier — personalised woodwork, parquet floors, and classic country-house décor. Deluxe rooms are the minimum required if you're travelling with extra guests (the hotel specifies an upgrade to Deluxe for additional bed requests). Garden views in most rooms.
Standard
En-suite rooms with the same parquet floors and flat-screen TV setup as the rest of the property. Some have wrought-iron beds or wood-beamed ceilings. Compact but well-kept — past guests describe them as 'simple but spacious and neat'.
Suite
The most generous option in the house. Suites include a separate living area and the full woodwork-and-parquet treatment that runs throughout the property. Some feature wrought-iron beds, others exposed wood-beamed ceilings. Spacious enough that past guests with young children describe them as genuinely comfortable.
