La Maison
Design-forward boutique hotel with a francophile personality. Eclectic art and bold colour fill the villa's public spaces; the newer buildings strip things back to clean minimalism. Chic but genuinely relaxed — not precious about it.
Book LOUIS well in advance — it only operates Wednesday to Saturday evenings and the courtroom dining room seats just 24 guests
Why It Matters
Home to LOUIS, a 2-Michelin-star restaurant set in a converted courtroom. Named DER FEINSCHMECKER's Hotel of the Year in Germany for 2023. The building itself — a collision of 1914 civic architecture and sharp contemporary extensions — won the German Design Award in 2019. Now also has a full 2,000 m² spa.
LA MAISON started life as a former Higher Administrative Court — a 1914 villa in Saarlouis that someone had the nerve to turn into a hotel. And it works brilliantly. Three distinct buildings now make up the property: the original historic villa, a bold minimalist annex with a bronzed folded-aluminium exterior, and a wood-clad guesthouse that echoes the surrounding park. The 2-Michelin-star LOUIS restaurant sits in the old courtroom. That's not a metaphor. That's literally where dinner happens.
