Why It Matters
Holds one MICHELIN Key. Directly adjoins the Cos d'Estournel winery, giving guests privileged access to one of Bordeaux's most iconic estates. The culinary program is overseen by Jérôme Banctel, the Michelin 3-star chef of La Réserve Paris. Only 14 rooms. Seasonal closure (early April–early November only) keeps it intentionally exclusive.
La Maison d'Estournel is the private residence-turned-14-room hotel of the Cos d'Estournel estate, one of the Médoc's most celebrated 2nd Grand Cru Classé wine châteaux. The 18th-century sandstone mansion sits directly next to the estate's famous pagoda-topped winery, surrounded by centuries-old cedars and giant sequoias — with nothing but vines and sky in every direction. Owner Michel Reybier brought in English designer Alex Michaelis to create a look that feels like a chic friend's countryside home: solid oak floors, velvet headboards, fringed lampshades, original art, and Cos d'Estournel wines poured freely at the bar.

Cos Room
On clear days you can spot the emblematic pagodas of Cos d'Estournel through the window. Ceiling cornices reference the style of classic Médoc bourgeois estates, and the shower units are shaped to echo oak wine barrels — genuinely thoughtful detail rather than gimmick. One Cos Room is specially adapted for accessibility.

A spacious second-floor room where you can see the grounds, vines, and — on a clear day — the Gironde estuary in the distance. Pure white walls are punctuated by touches of burgundy and deep blue, while solid oak parquet and shimmering stylized floral embroideries on the curtains give the space a quiet refinement.
Junior Suite
Two windows from the second floor frame views of the grounds and vineyards that stretch practically to the horizon — and you can take it all in from the freestanding bathtub. The tub backs onto a spacious curved shower with intense blue tiling, a lovely piece of detail work.
Pagode Room
Located mostly on the west side of the mansion, these rooms look out over the imposing plane tree at the entrance courtyard. On clear days, the flowering rooftops of the estate outbuildings and even wisteria-covered stonework are visible. Dark oak plank floors and white walls create a clean, serene atmosphere with a subtle mix of colors and refined fabrics.
Terrace Cos Room
A private terrace overlooks the grounds and vineyards — this is the entry point if you want that outdoor perch for an evening glass of wine. The decor distills the spirit of the location: nature, Médoc culture, and a cozy, perfectly styled cocoon.
Terrace Estournel Room
A first-floor room with a private balcony lending real charm to the space. Deep-colored headboard, velvet-covered seats, and a lamp all echo the stylized floral embroideries in the curtains — the room has an understated richness that doesn't feel overdone.
Terrace Junior Suite
The best room in the house for sheer drama. A colonnaded first-floor balcony looks straight across the vineyards toward the pagodas of Cos d'Estournel. Inside, choose between a freestanding bathtub or a spacious shower with a daintily rounded shape and mosaic motif — both reflecting the oak barrel aesthetic of the estate.
