La Mission
Chic-bohème French island. 1970s coastal nostalgia with colorful rooms, vintage furniture, and a genuine locals-welcome vibe. Not precious or stiff — more 'family house that grew up nicely' than 'luxury resort'.

Why It Matters
Winner of the Hôtel & Lodge Awards among the 100 most beautiful hotels in the world. The only full-service hotel-spa on Île d'Yeu — a car-free island of 5,000 residents accessible only by ferry or helicopter. Designed by Pauline d'Hoop (known for Sézane boutiques), it's open year-round deliberately to serve locals as much as tourists.
A former Napoleonic garrison turned school turned hotel — it sounds like a stretch, but La Mission absolutely pulls it off. Seven low-lying buildings are connected around a central courtyard-garden with a century-old plane tree and a heated pool at the center, arranged almost like a cloister. Opened in spring 2024 by the duo behind Les Hôteliers Impertinents, it's a 4-star property with 22 rooms that leans heavily into the island's laid-back coastal DNA: white-washed stone facades, colorful shutters, rattan furniture, and a rum bar with 250+ bottles.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The smartest way to see the island — and the hotel stocks a proper fleet. Manual bikes, electric-assist bikes, children's bikes, and tandems, all available directly from the hotel (no ferry queue). Hotel also provides assistance in case of a flat tire. Reserve at booking.
Pool table available in the hotel's communal spaces.
The island's network of footpaths leads through rugged cliffs and wild coves — the hotel provides guidance on routes. Dramatic coastal scenery comparable to Cornwall.
Seasonal pool at the center of the hotel courtyard, facing the majestic century-old plane tree. Sun loungers, a snacking menu available poolside. Open 10 AM–7 PM.
Pétanque courts in the garden — a genuine island ritual, especially at aperitif hour with the food truck running.
Organized rum tastings at Bar 1802, with over 250 references. Can be done as tasting trays independently or as structured masterclasses. Particularly popular in off-season.
A popular weekly event that draws locals and guests alike. One of the social anchors of the hotel's community-first philosophy.
The hotel hosts occasional curated wellness retreats — for example, a Menopause, Metabolism & Wellness Reset Retreat was hosted in June 2025, led by specialist Céline Roy.
