Book the Stanza della Badessa for the most privacy — it has its own garden and hydromassage pool

Why It Matters

Holder of 1 Michelin Key (awarded 2025). The only hotel in the medieval hilltop village of Buggiano Castello. Restoration took decades and involved historians, architects, and art conservators. The spa's 'Paradiso dell'Anima' pathway is carved into natural rock connecting a medieval tower to a 17th-century well — there is genuinely nothing else like it. Two outdoor pools with micronized water are scented by surrounding citrus trees.

A 16th-century monastery painstakingly restored over two decades and reopened in 2024 as a 19-room luxury boutique hotel. The original chapel is now a showstopper restaurant under a pale blue domed roof, the stone terraces host tiered gardens and two pools, and the nuns' former quarters have become individually named suites with beamed ceilings and valley views. Small, private, and genuinely historic — this is one of the most compelling new openings in Tuscany.
