Why It Matters
A genuine Belgian institution, newly restored. First 5-star Superior on the entire Belgian coast. Restaurant La Rigue landed in the Michelin Guide and scored 13.5/20 at Gault&Millau; its terrace was named the most beautiful in Belgium in 2025. The Glenn Sestig redesign earned serious architectural attention across Europe.
La Réserve opened in 1949 as one of the Belgian coast's most glamorous addresses — Frank Sinatra, Brigitte Bardot, and René Magritte all checked in during its mid-century golden age. After decades of slow decline, entrepreneurs Bart Versluys and Marc Coucke took over in 2021 and handed the keys to architect Glenn Sestig, who delivered a complete redesign in just six months. The result is quiet luxury at its most considered: eucalyptus wood, onyx marble, Art Deco bar details, plush king beds, and a wellness center that reopened in 2024 to match. In 2024, Tourism Flanders awarded it the Five Stars Superior label — the first hotel on the Belgian coast to receive it.
