La Villa de Madeleine
Slow-living mountain retreat. Stone, raw wood, clay tones, and earthy textures throughout — informed by Mediterranean tradition with subtle Japanese influences. Ecological consciousness is central: energy-efficient appliances, recycled grey water for the garden, organic cotton linens, and local natural cosmetics. Quiet and intentional, not showy.
The complimentary tavern meal is real — every booking includes a free dinner at the local village eatery. Use it on arrival night.
Why It Matters
One of the rare Michelin-selected properties in inland Arcadia. It's a genuine 1930s historic mansion — the original wine cellar and stable are intact and visible to guests, not just decorative talking points. The whole-villa model means total privacy. And the complimentary meal at the local village tavern with every booking is a genuinely thoughtful touch that connects guests to the village.
A 1930s stone mansion built by the Mavria family in the mountain village of Agios Ioannis, Arcadia, La Villa de Madeleine sits at around 750 metres on the slopes of Mount Parnon. The Benopoulos family bought and restored it in 2018, naming it after their daughter Magdalene. The original ground-floor vaulted cellar (the 'lino', where grapes were once pressed) and the old stable still form part of the property, given the restoration respected what was already there. It's rented as a complete 200m² villa for up to 6 guests, with 2 bedrooms, a Finnish sauna, outdoor heated jacuzzi, and a lower-level wellness area with gym and spa.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The Argolic Gulf beaches at Paralio Astros are 18km from the villa — under 20 minutes by car. Crystal-clear turquoise waters. Coastal restaurants, cafes, and light nightlife are available there before returning to the mountain quiet.
Paths cross chestnut forests, ravines, and old stone roads through the Parnon massif. The Lepida waterfalls, 4km from the village, are a popular short hike destination. Natural springs including Soulinari and Pigadaki, and old water mills, dot the landscape.
The Karytsiotis School ('Koutri'), founded in 1798, hosted the first Greek revolutionary government in 1822. The ruins of Frankish Estella castle (Oria) are a few km outside the village. Stone-paved courtyards, traditional fountains, and stone bridges throughout Agios Ioannis.
Explore local products: cheeses, cured meats, the traditional Agianni 'kokkineli' wine, and homemade spoon sweets. The village square cafes under the plane trees serve as the social hub. The villa can help organize food-focused excursions or special packages on request.
The villa can host intimate to medium-sized events — from strategic business meetings to weddings — for 10 to 80 people. Configurable indoor and outdoor spaces. Three hours from Athens. Full event organization support offered.
Religious holidays for Agios Georgios, Prodromos, and Panteleimon are accompanied by folk feasts, music, and dancing. Summer events at the 'Koutrios' area include sports activities, children's programs, and concerts.
