Laguna Coast Resort opened in May 2025 on the Stelida peninsula of Naxos — the only five-star resort on the island — and it has a genuinely unusual reason for existing. It sits at the center of the largest environmental regeneration project in the Cyclades, spanning 480 acres of protected wetlands, a cedar forest, a natural offshore reef, and a 1.5km stretch of private coastline. The landscape is a migratory corridor for flamingos and rare birds. The resort itself is deliberately small: 21 suites and villas built in a biophilic, earth-toned Cycladic style with private pools or jacuzzis, all centered around a lake. Think slow living, not resort sprawl.
