Le Château de Mirwart
Historic Belgian castle with a contemporary interior — think natural stone walls, warm oak, leather and travertine alongside modern comforts. Romantic and remote, aimed at couples and food-focused travellers rather than the pool-and-spa crowd.
Book the gastronomic restaurant (L'Écrin) well in advance — it only seats guests Thursday to Saturday evenings, and the 7-course menu fills up fast
Why It Matters
A Michelin Guide hotel with two Gault & Millau-rated restaurants — L'Écrin de Mirwart at 14/20 and Bistrot de la Lomme at 13/20 — both led by Chef Jimmy Boniface, a 2025 Young Master inductee into the Mastercooks of Belgium. Castle suites run from 70 to 220 sqm, and the two-bedroom Tour de Dinant tower suite sits inside 1.5-metre-thick 13th-century defensive walls.
A medieval fortress perched on a shelf of rock above the river Lomme, deep inside 1,350 hectares of Belgian Ardennes forest. The site traces its fortified history to 955 AD, but the current château was built between 1706 and 1734 — and has only recently been reborn as a 20-room boutique hotel. It's one of Belgium's most dramatic addresses: the building dominates the village below it, the forest presses in on all sides, and the two restaurants are genuinely excellent.
