Why It Matters
The only Michelin-starred restaurant in Étretat sits here, chef Gabin Bouguet cooking a tightly focused menu built around local seafood and coastal Norman produce. The dining room features a fresco by fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Add a rooftop Jacuzzi on a medieval tower with unobstructed views of the chalk cliffs and this is one of the most distinctive small hotels in Normandy.
A 19th-century Anglo-Norman château perched on a hillside above Étretat, Le Donjon has been operating as a hotel for over 40 years. Its 25 rooms are spread across three buildings — the turreted castle itself, a Belle Époque villa, and a cottage — each named after a historical or literary figure like Claude Monet, Marcel Proust, or Sarah Bernhardt, and each decorated completely differently. The gastronomic restaurant holds a Michelin star. The Canopée rooftop jacuzzi on top of the tower, with 360° views over the cliffs, sea, and town, is the kind of thing you don't forget.
