Le Grand Cerf
Rustic-chic forest cabin meets Norman village charm. Wood in every form — bleached, aged, driftwood — runs throughout. Cozy and personal rather than grand.

Why It Matters
Sits on the square of one of France's Most Beautiful Villages. Guests have access to an acclaimed Nuxe spa with a genuinely unusual treehouse treatment room perched in a centuries-old sequoia. The sister restaurant La Licorne Royale holds a Michelin star.
A 17th-century coaching inn that reopened in 2009 as a design boutique hotel, sitting on the main square of Lyons-la-Forêt — one of France's officially designated Most Beautiful Villages. The whole place leans hard into a forest aesthetic: beds hand-crafted from reclaimed tree branches, rooms named after trees (Le Cèdre, Le Bouleau, Le Cormier), exposed wooden beams, plaid flannel duvets. Some rooms have sloped ceilings with skylights. It's part of a small hotel group that also runs the grander La Licorne next door and shares a Michelin-starred restaurant.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The beech forest and surrounding Norman countryside are ideal for cycling. Marked bike trails run through the forest — the tourist office can provide maps.
Fly fishing is possible on the River Lieure and nearby streams — the area has a long connection to fishing, famously a pastime of Art Deco designer Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann who summered here.
The Forêt de Lyons has 17 marked hiking circuits through ancient beech forest directly accessible from the village. The Fouillebroc trail is a popular local route through clearings and valleys.
Horse riding is available in the surrounding area near the hotel.
At dusk in autumn, guided walks into the forest to hear and observe the red deer rut — a bucket-list experience for nature lovers visiting in September–October.
Guided forays into the beech forest with a mycologist — foragers learn to identify and cook mushrooms. Available seasonally.
A traditional market under the 18th-century covered hall right on the hotel's doorstep, running Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. Fresh produce, local specialities, cider, calvados.
