Le Meridien Hualien Resort
Sleek, contemporary luxury with deliberate nods to Hualien's indigenous and Japanese heritage. Warm wood finishes dominate the lobby and rooms — reviewers consistently single out the ceiling detail in the atrium as a showstopper. The vibe is resort-casual, not stuffy. Think: linen and stone, art installations referencing Taroko Gorge, cocktails at the sky bar.
Book a hot spring room if you can — it is the reason this hotel exists. The private in-room onsen baths use natural carbonated chloride spring water and have panoramic window views.
Why It Matters
First hot spring resort hotel in downtown Hualien, and the first Le Méridien resort property in Taiwan. The building integrates hotel, spa, sky garden, and shopping mall. Rooms have direct Pacific or Central Range views, and hot spring rooms feature private onsen-style carbonated chloride spring baths. Listed by both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels.
Le Méridien Hualien Resort is the first luxury hot spring hotel in the center of Hualien City — a market that had no business hosting a property this polished. Opened in late 2023, the hotel occupies the upper floors (8–21) of a mixed-use tower that also contains the J Plaza shopping mall, with amenities stacked on floors 6 and 7. The real draw is the combination: you get Pacific Ocean views on one side, the dramatic Central Mountain Range on the other, and natural hot spring water piped directly into select guest rooms.
