Why It Matters
One of only a handful of Leading Hotels of the World properties in Canada. It holds a Michelin Key and sits inside a National Historic Site — an 1883 mansion that was recognized in 1971. The hotel only opened in 2017 after Tidan Hospitality Group completed an extensive renovation, adding the modern tower while preserving the mansion's carved mahogany staircase, period furnishings, and original grandeur.
Le Mount Stephen is a 90-room luxury boutique hotel split across two wildly different structures. Out front, an 1883 neo-Renaissance mansion — once the private home of Lord George Stephen, one of the richest men in North America and the first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway — serves as a grand, chandelier-lit entrance and home to Bar George. Step through the lobby and you're in a completely different building: a sleek, 11-story contemporary tower where all guest rooms live. The contrast is the whole point, and it works.
