Le Pigonnet
Garden-manor chic. Think antique furniture mixed with contemporary Provençal fabrics, stone fountains, centenary chestnut trees, and a bar named after a former owner. Celebrity past (Barbara, Gainsbourg, Clint Eastwood) but never stuffy. Artistic soul runs through everything—the spa even does art therapy sessions.
Book La Table du Pigonnet well in advance in summer — tables on the terrace under the chestnut trees go fast
Why It Matters
One of the most storied addresses in Aix—a century-old family maison on lush, largely unchanged grounds where Cézanne allegedly painted. Now a Small Luxury Hotels member with a newly redesigned spa and dining concept, making it more than just a heritage play.
An 18th-century Provençal bastide sitting inside 1.5 hectares of garden in a quiet residential quarter of Aix. Cézanne is said to have set up his easel here to paint Sainte-Victoire. The hotel recently celebrated its centenary with a serious refresh: designer Jacques Garcia reimagined the reception, bar, and main restaurant, three new suites by Thibault Picard were added, and a brand-new 350 m² spa called Folie Verte opened in spring 2025.
