Le Prieuré
Medieval heritage meets understated Provençal elegance. Think clean contemporary furnishings against centuries-old exposed stone, a wisteria-draped garden that feels more Tuscany than tourist trap, and a pool framed by century-old plane trees. Unhurried and genuinely quiet.

Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally significant hotel buildings in the Avignon region — originally built in 1332 as a cardinal's palace and donated to form a priory. Part of the prestigious Baumanière and Relais & Châteaux families, and holder of both a Michelin Key and a Michelin star for its restaurant. Chef Christophe Chiavola earned the star in just six months after joining in May 2023.
A 14th-century former cardinal's palace-turned-priory, Le Prieuré-Baumanière sits in the medieval village of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, just across the Rhône from Avignon's Palace of the Popes. The Baumanière group (of Les Baux-de-Provence fame) took over in 2007 and gave the 36-room property a refined contemporary refresh while keeping the original stonework, ancient wisteria arbors, and old-world bones intact. The Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by chef Christophe Chiavola is reason enough to book — he earned that star just six months into the job.

Guided discovery of local artisan producers and Provençal market culture, curated by the hotel.
The hotel recommends a circuit of remarkable Provençal villages in the Luberon and the Alpilles Natural Park, 45–60 minutes by car. The concierge can help with itineraries.
The concierge recommends and maps walking, cycling, and horseback routes across the region — from the Alpilles Natural Park (30 min drive) to the Luberon's perched villages.
