Le Vieux Castillon
Medieval Provençal village-hotel. Warm local stone, period tiles, and Gard staircases mix with contemporary touches and neutral tones. Intimate, quiet, and resolutely non-resort — more like staying inside an actual village than at a traditional hotel.
Book the Terrace Suite if budget allows — private terraces overlooking village rooftops are worth the premium, especially at the autumn offer price of €329
Why It Matters
Part of the H8 Collection and listed on Tablet Hotels, the property is genuinely carved out of 10th-century ruins within a Renaissance village that was once the bishop of Uzès's residence. The Pont du Gard UNESCO World Heritage aqueduct is 3.5 km away. Guests have direct access to a Clarins-branded spa and two distinct dining concepts under the same roof.
Thirty-four rooms spread across 18 medieval stone houses, all stitched together by walkways, staircases, suspended bridges, and shaded patios. That is Le Vieux Castillon — a 4-star hotel built inside the fabric of a hilltop village in the Gard, a few kilometers from Avignon. The pool looks out over Provençal vineyards toward Mont Ventoux, and on some evenings they project old cinema classics poolside under the stars.

Old cinema classics projected outdoors several times a week — guests watch from by the pool. A genuine highlight in summer.
UNESCO World Heritage Roman aqueduct, 3.5 km from the hotel — the village literally gets its name from it. Museum, trails, and a children's playground on site.
