Why It Matters
One of very few properties in the Itria Valley where you actually sleep inside a genuine, 18th-century trullo that's been properly restored rather than cosmetically upgraded. The Suite Leonardo in Cantina — with its private pool built into a historic wine cellar — is genuinely one of a kind in the region. Chef Francesco Cataldi, recognized by Gambero Rosso as an emerging chef, runs the on-site ArteCibo Restaurant using produce grown in the resort's own vegetable gardens.
Fourteen rooms spread across a cluster of authentic 18th-century trulli and an Art Nouveau-era piccola masseria on a quiet country lane outside Locorotondo. The whitewashed stone buildings — conical-roofed trulli and a 1900s Liberty-style farmhouse — have been restored with real care: raw limestone exposed, Salento hand-embroidered cotton linens, underfloor heating beneath ancient stone floors. The standout is the Suite Leonardo in Cantina, where a 300-year-old wine cellar has been converted into a private underground pool fed with magnesium salt water. Outside, there's an outdoor pool (also magnesium-enriched, heated September through May), herb and vegetable gardens, and an on-site restaurant run by a Gambero Rosso-recognized chef. It's a family-owned property — owner Rosalba Cardone inherited it from her uncle Leonardo — and that personal touch comes through.

Casa Rosalba is a 20th-century country house with the most essential architectural lines, built from simple local stone.
