Les Bassans
Art Deco ocean liner meets understated Breton boutique. Sandy neutrals, local ceramics, brass accents, and in-room telescopes for watching gannets and dolphins. Relaxed and nature-forward rather than flashy.
Room No. 4 has the bed positioned to jut into the bay window like the prow of a ship — worth requesting specifically
Why It Matters
First Fontenille Collection property in Brittany, and one of only a few upscale boutique hotels on this stretch of coastline. All 25 rooms have unobstructed sea views. The restaurant earned a listing in the 2025 Michelin Guide. The hotel name is a nod to the Northern Gannets (fous de Bassan) that nest on the nearby Sept-Îles — a rare seabird colony visible from the property.
A cliff-top Breton manor that opened as Villa Le Sphinx in 1936, Les Bassans was relaunched in spring 2025 as the first Brittany address of the Fontenille Collection. The 25-room hotel sits directly above Trestrignel beach on the Pink Granite Coast, with every room facing the sea and the Sept-Îles archipelago. The design takes its cue from 1930s ocean liners — wood panelling, brass fittings, bow-window bedrooms — while bathrooms are tiled with mosaics made from local marine sediments.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Every room is equipped with a telescope for scanning the bay for gannets, puffins, dolphins, and seals visible from the coast. The hotel name is a direct nod to the Northern Gannet (fou de Bassan).
The hotel sits steps from the Customs Officers' Trail, a primarily flat two-mile coastal footpath along the GR34 long-distance hiking trail. The walk passes the dramatic pink granite formations of Ploumanac'h.
The hotel recommends kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in the waters directly off Trestrignel beach and along the Pink Granite Coast.
The Atlantic coast around Perros-Guirec is suitable for surfing. Trestrignel beach is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Note: hotel does not provide water sports equipment on-site.
The hotel can recommend local boat tour companies for sailing excursions around the Sept-Îles archipelago, home to one of France's largest seabird colonies (puffins, gannets) and frequent dolphin sightings.
Yoga classes are available at the property alongside the spa facilities.
