Les Garennes
Romantic French château meets contemporary wellness retreat. History-heavy architecture with clean, modern interior design. Quiet and intimate — only 15 rooms means it never feels crowded. Strong wellness DNA with a spa that draws non-guests too.
Ask for a harbour-view room — the panoramic port views from bed are the rooms' best feature and worth requesting at booking
Why It Matters
One of very few classified Jardins Remarquables in southern Brittany with an operating hotel on site. The spa occupies the original 19th-century château stables — a genuinely unusual setting. Tablet Hotels-listed, Michelin Guide-listed. The only 4-star château hotel in the Bénodet/Odet estuary area.
A 19th-century neoclassical château on the east bank of the Odet river, sitting inside a 55-hectare English-style park that's officially classified as a Jardin Remarquable. Built in 1890, used as a German kommandantur during WWII, and sheltered French resistance hero Honoré d'Estienne d'Orves — then completely overhauled into a 15-room hotel and spa in 2020. Indoors: fireplaces, ornate molding, chandeliers, and wrought-iron details. Outside: manicured grounds, two pools (one indoor, one outdoor heated), and 5km of walking trails right on the estate.
