Longfellow Hotel
New England minimalism meets Scandinavian wellness. Residential in feel, not corporate. Quiet, intentional, and built around sleep and restoration. The design is restrained without being cold — mosaic tile floors, custom granite vanities, Swans Island blankets, Loftie alarm clocks. Feels like a very well-edited friend's apartment on a historic street.

Why It Matters
First independent full-service hotel in Portland in two decades. Sleep Wise Consulting certified the rooms for optimal rest. Astraea Spa is the only spa in New England to feature the VOYA organic seaweed product line. Single-use plastics are entirely eliminated throughout the property. Rooms are double-drywalled for sound insulation.
The Longfellow is Portland's first independent full-service hotel to open in 20 years — a 48-room wellness boutique on Congress Street in the West End, named for the city's most beloved poet. Designed by Brooklyn firm Post Company (the same team behind Inness and the Lake House on Canandaigua), the interiors lean hard into New England minimalism: wide-plank hardwood floors, lime-washed walls, intricate mosaic tile, pine accents, and a judicious amount of navy. Owned by brothers Nate and Tony DeLois of Uncommon Hospitality, it opened in spring 2024 and promptly landed on Travel + Leisure's It List, Town & Country's global Hotel Awards, and #6 in the Northeast in Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards.
