Lopota Lake Resort & Spa
Family-run Georgian resort with serious scale — part wine estate, part nature retreat, part adventure camp. The vibe is warm and unpretentious, rooted in Kakhetian hospitality. Not ultra-slick, but genuinely characterful.

Why It Matters
One of the few resorts in Georgia with a fully bio-certified on-site winery (Château Buera), a Valmont spa partnership, Michelin Guide listing, and Tablet Hotels membership. Started as a private family guesthouse and scaled without losing its personal feel.
What began as a seven-room guesthouse is now one of Georgia's most ambitious resort complexes. Spread across 60 hectares in the Kakheti wine region, Lopota Lake Resort wraps around its own lake with 16 low-rise buildings housing 310 rooms. The Maisuradze family still runs it, and that shows — the place has personality, not just facilities. There's an on-site winery (Château Buera), a Valmont-branded forest spa with panoramic views, a jazz club, and an adventure center serving up horseback rides, quad bikes, and guided wine tours. About two hours northeast of Tbilisi.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Bike rental from the Adventure Center. Routes wind along the lakeside, through flower fields, past vineyards, and along the chestnut avenue to the stables. Particularly good at sunset.
Forest trails through the resort's grounds and beyond, with routes available for all fitness levels. Views over the Alazani Valley are the reward at higher elevations. Staff can organize guided options.
Lake fishing for carp, sturgeon, and catfish from wooden platforms on the lakeside or from water bikes. Gear available at the Adventure Center.
Cooking classes at Kakhetian Corner focused on traditional dishes. Hands-on sessions covering khinkali, Georgian bread, and traditional live-cooking techniques.
Sommelier-led tours of the bio-certified Château Buera vineyards and cellars. Tastings come in two formats: a terrace pairing (wine with cheese, antipasti, or dessert) or a vineyard picnic with a curated wine basket. Historically priced around 60–150 GEL ($21–$51) per person.
Nine water attractions for children and adults set within the resort's greenery. Seasonal operation (May–September).
Indoor and outdoor children's facility with safe attractions and eco-friendly toys. Educational and play programming for younger guests.
The resort's adventure team organizes tours beyond the property: monastery visits (Alaverdi, 20 min away), regional winery visits, family cellars, and cultural tours across Kakheti.
Aerial tours of the Kakheti region available through the Adventure Center on request.
Routes of varying length and difficulty departing from the Adventure Center stables. Options include resort grounds, forest trails, and longer rides into the surrounding Kakheti countryside.
Guided quad tours through Kakheti landscapes including visits to historical sites. Route and duration are customizable.
Outdoor courts for informal games. Open to all guests.
Hard-surface courts set against a Caucasus mountain backdrop. Suitable for amateur to professional level. The courts host local and international tournaments periodically.
Pedal out onto Lopota Lake by water bike. A good way to spot the resident bird population up close and see the resort's scale from the water.
