Why It Matters
One of the only properties in Uruguay with a working vineyard and olive grove on-site, plus a multi-format fine dining restaurant open to non-guests. The 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio and deliberate no-TV policy make this a genuine disconnection retreat rather than a standard hotel.
LUZ sits on 35 private acres between the Atlantic and the Uruguayan countryside, about 10 minutes inland from José Ignacio by car. The single-storey vermillion-red posada — designed by architect Diego Montero for founder Jian Farhadi — takes its cues from Moroccan hacienda architecture: low-slung lines, polished concrete, warm earthy tones, and rooms arranged around a central patio. There are 8 suites (no two alike), no TVs, and a 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio. The food is the point. NUR, the on-site restaurant run by chef Juan Manuel Mayolo, runs everything from a poolside tapas menu to a beef omakase bar to a forest banquet at a 9-meter communal table.
