Room 14 (Colibri Suite) has the best views — a wood-paneled alcove window directly overlooking the Saturday morning market and the Hospices de Beaune rooftop

Why It Matters

The only luxury boutique hotel in Beaune in two decades, and one of the very few places globally where you can have a James Beard Award–winning chef's cuisine while staying one minute's walk from the 15th-century Hospices de Beaune. The food and wine program is genuinely world-class: Mark Bright, co-founder of San Francisco's two-Michelin-star Saison, oversees a wine list with bottles going back to 1920.

Maison 1896 is the first luxury hotel to open in Beaune in over 20 years — a 16-room boutique property in a three-story Beaux-Arts building constructed in 1896, right on Place Fleury in the historic center. California hotelier David Fink of the Mirabel Hotel & Restaurant Group partnered with the fifth-generation Burgundian wine family behind Maison Joseph Drouhin to restore this corner building, bringing in French-born, California-based designer Estelle Fabre to create interiors that feel like a vigneron's home: gilded mirrors, original oak beams, heated limestone floors, Victoria + Albert bathtubs, and custom handmade beds. The in-house restaurant, Slanted Door Beaune, serves elevated Vietnamese cuisine conceived by the late James Beard Award–winning chef Charles Phan — his first and only international location, and the only place in Beaune with year-round covered outdoor dining under a retractable glass roof atrium.
