La Rochelle's only five-star hotel occupies an 18th-century building under the city's famous stone arches on Rue du Minage — a two-minute walk from the covered market and five minutes from the old port. It was the personal residence of French diplomat Albert Bodard, who traveled from Mexico to China and back and always returned here. The hotel leans hard into that story: mid-century modern rooms with parquet floors, leather headboards, and vintage lamps; a salon bar anchored by a grand stone fireplace; and a spa and courtyard pool that feel genuinely private. It's housed across two buildings — one dating from the 17th century, one from the 1950s — which gives rooms a split personality between rustic exposed beams and bright contemporary spaces.

Ranging 37–43m2, the Deluxe Suite adds real breathing room and a single bed for a third guest. Has both a shower and bathtub — a notable step up from the Deluxe Room. Same design language: ocean and salt-flat color palette, mid-century touches, parquet floors. Good option for a couple who wants proper suite space or a solo traveler on an expense account.

Family Suite
At 83m2 with a private terrace and small kitchen, the Family Suite is effectively a self-contained apartment. Sleeps up to six across a king-size bed, a double, and two singles. Comes with daily fruit basket, turndown service, and daily sheet and towel service as standard. The private terrace is the standout feature — rare for a city-centre hotel in La Rochelle.
