Why It Matters
One of very few midcentury modernist B&Bs in Provence, selected by both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. The architecture is genuinely unusual — glass and concrete in a landscape of lavender and limestone. The hosts built it themselves, live on the ground floor, and run it with visible care.
Maison Jalon is a four-room B&B sitting on the edge of a 4,000sqm garden about 5 km north of Aix-en-Provence. The building is all glass and poured concrete — flat roof, big bay windows, boxy two-story silhouette — and it genuinely looks like it landed in Provence from Palm Springs circa 1965. Owners Laetitia and Dimitri (veterans of a guesthouse in Marrakesh) filled the rooms with vintage lamps, colorful wallpaper, and objects hauled back from years of international travel. Small by any hotel metric, but the pool, the pétanque court, and that spectacular breakfast make it hard to leave.

One of four individually decorated rooms on the upper floor of the Jalon house. Each room has explosive vintage decor — think retro lamps, colorful wallpaper, and art objects sourced from the owners' travels. Big bay windows flood the space with light. The private terrace looks straight down onto the garden and pool.

In July and August, the entire house can be rented exclusively for families or friend groups. Ground floor includes living room, dining room, and fitted kitchen opening to a terrace and patio. All four double bedrooms upstairs, plus full garden access including the 17x3m heated pool, pétanque court, ping-pong table, BBQ, and griddle.

A 17x3m lap pool secured by a submerged shutter and heated in the off-season. The pool area is landscaped with daybeds for lounging. Guests consistently cite this as a highlight — described as a 'dream pool' and 'superb lap pool'.
