Maison Moizeau
Minimalist coastal guest house. Sober neutral palette, natural materials, fishing-port aesthetic. Feels like a well-designed friend's house on the water rather than a hotel.

Why It Matters
The guest house is operated by three-Michelin-star chef Alexandre Couillon and his wife Céline, and sits literally next door to La Marine — one of France's most celebrated restaurants. Staying here removes all logistical headaches after a multi-course tasting menu on an island. It is a member of both Relais & Châteaux and Tablet Hotels.
Maison Moizeau is the five-room guest house attached to Alexandre Couillon's three-Michelin-star restaurant La Marine, sitting right on the port of L'Herbaudière on the island of Noirmoutier. Named after a nearby beach, the house is built around a single idea: calm. Natural wood, metal, and linen throughout — no fuss, no frills, just the sound of the harbour outside your window. The whole point of staying here is La Marine next door, and that's completely fine.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Noirmoutier has an excellent network of flat cycling paths. The island is small and bike-friendly — Plage des Dames and the salt marshes are easy rides from L'Herbaudière.
The port of L'Herbaudière is right on your doorstep. Early mornings are especially good — watch the fishing boats come in, the same ones supplying Alexandre Couillon's kitchen. The fish auction (criée) is nearby.
The 16th-century paved causeway connecting Noirmoutier to the mainland that disappears under the sea twice daily. A genuinely extraordinary sight and a unique way to arrive or depart — with tide tables in hand.
