MALAT Weingut und Hotel
Modern wine-country minimalism with deep local roots. Restrained interiors, maximalist views. Feels more like staying with an extremely well-organized, wine-obsessed family than checking into a hotel.
Request a south-facing suite explicitly — all rooms face south but the upstairs split-level suites have a better elevation angle on the abbey
Why It Matters
Awarded a Michelin Key in 2024. Part of a 10-generation winery — the estate produces Kremstal whites, sparkling wines and reds, all available for tasting from the in-room wine cabinet. Every room faces south toward Göttweig Abbey. Recognized by Falstaff Hotel Guide, Tablet Hotels, and the Michelin Guide.
A family-run winery dating to 1722 added this sleek boutique hotel to its estate in Furth bei Göttweig. Just 9 suites and 1 apartment, built into the stone walls of the historic Hafnerhaus, surrounded by vines with direct sightlines to the 11th-century Stift Göttweig monastery. The building is angular and modern outside; inside it's warm oak floors, natural stone, Wittmann beds, and floor-to-ceiling glass that frames those abbey views. No restaurant, no pool, no gym — the draw here is the wine, the quiet, and the deeply personal hosting.

Annual cycling event 'MALAT statt Malle' runs in April (April 14–19, 2026).
Alexis, Wilma, and Sebastian sit down with guests to plan the day: restaurant reservations at local Heurigen or fine dining in Kremstal and Wachau, tee time bookings, cycling routes, cultural suggestions (Art Mile Krems, Grafenegg concerts, Vienna State Opera). This is a genuine feature of the stay, not just a brochure promise.
