Aberdeen
Dark, moody boutique hotel. Tartan headboards, velvet upholstery, low lighting. Scottish granite heritage with a contemporary brasserie attitude. Neither stuffy nor corporate.
Thursday steak night offers 50% off — worth timing your stay around if you're a carnivore
Why It Matters
One of Malmaison's original Scottish outposts, the Aberdeen property occupies a genuinely handsome Victorian granite mansion rather than a converted warehouse or office block. The building gives it more architectural character than many in the chain.
A 19th-century granite mansion on Queen's Road that Malmaison converted into 79 rooms of dark-toned, tartan-splashed boutique hotel. Sits about 1.5 miles southwest of Aberdeen city centre — close enough to walk in, far enough to feel removed from it. The Chez Mal Brasserie fires steaks over a Josper grill, the spa runs TEMPLESPA treatments Thursday through Sunday, and the whole place leans heavily into that moody, velvet-and-tartan aesthetic the brand made its name with.
