Why It Matters
One of Belfast's few genuinely design-led boutique hotels, set inside two authentic Victorian warehouse shells with original architectural features intact. The Signature Suite 'Samson' — complete with purple snooker table and roll-top bath — featured in the BBC drama Line of Duty. No pool, no spa, but the atmosphere and location compensate.
Two converted 1850s seed warehouses in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, now wearing the Malmaison livery with considerable style. The bones were laid by the original McCausland Hotel conversion; design firm Jestico + Whiles added the dark moodiness. Think carved stone gargoyles, original cast-iron pillars, heavy drapes, and a Titanic fixation that runs from the shipbuilding-scale bathtubs to the suite names. It's a 4-star AA-rated boutique with 64 rooms, one genuinely show-stopping suite, and one of the better brasseries in the city centre.

The top of the room tier, second only to the suites in size, features, and comfort. A Sealy pillow-top king bed and a 40-inch flat screen TV are among the upgrades. Bathrobes, slippers, coffee machine.

Steps up from Standard with king or super king bed, 32-inch flat screen TV with Sky Sports included, a coffee machine, and bathrobes and slippers. En-suite shower over bath (some shower only). The Sky Sports makes it a solid choice for sports fans.

The suite they named 'Samson'. This is the one — a purple billiard table in the lounge, roaring fire, seven-foot emperor bed, walk-in shower, roll-top bath, two TVs, iPod dock, and Bose system. It featured in the BBC drama Line of Duty. Book it if you're celebrating something worth celebrating.
