Why It Matters
The contrast between the majestic white villa exterior and the dark, design-led interiors inside is the whole concept. It's one of the few Malmaison properties housed in a genuinely historic building, and the Montpellier location puts you closer to the spa-town character of Cheltenham than any other upscale option in the neighbourhood.
This 1847 Regency villa still looks every inch the Gloucestershire grande dame from the outside — white stucco facade, flagpole, the lot. Step through the door and it's a full pivot. Malmaison has fitted it out with 61 rooms running dark, moody, and design-forward, with super king beds and rainfall showers throughout. The Chez Mal Brasserie & Bar does modern British brasserie food with a French edge, firing dishes on Josper and Konro grills. Location is genuinely strong: Montpellier Gardens is a 5-minute walk, Cheltenham Racecourse is 2.5 miles away.

The top of the house, and it earns the billing. Its own private staircase and entrance give you total separation from the rest of the hotel. The emperor bed anchors a large bedroom with a stylish seating area, opening onto a private furnished terrace with Cotswolds rooftop views. The bathroom has a separate bath and monsoon shower, robes, a Nespresso machine, and the full Mal luxury kit.
