Why It Matters
The first rooftop bar in Rennes, the first Mama Skin Spa across the entire Mama Shelter brand, and the most design-forward hotel in a city that had nothing comparable in the northwest of France. The building's heritage as a working mint gives the whole property a level of architectural character that a new-build could never fake.
Mama Shelter Rennes occupies a grand former mint — the Hôtel de la Monnaie — right on Place de la Trinité in Rennes' medieval city centre. Architect Benjamin El Doghaïli leaned hard into the building's past: carpets are woven with coin motifs, the lobby counter is tiled with a buckwheat pancake mosaic frieze in Odorico style, and one pink lounge is decked out with lobsters and oysters as a nod to Breton seafood culture. The result is 119 rooms split across three sizes, a panoramic rooftop that's the first of its kind in the city, three karaoke rooms in the basement, a pool and Mama Skin Spa, and a restaurant that cranks up the DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.

The entry-level option — and far from basic. Compact queen rooms ranging 17–23 m² with Absolution organic amenities, backlit bathroom mirror, free streaming movies (including X-rated), and 5-star bedding. Some carry original period mouldings or fireplaces; others sit under the sloping roof. No coffee machine.

The accessible variant of the Medium room. Larger footprint at 29–40 m² with a king-size bed. Wheelchair accessible design with all the standard Mama amenities included.

Only two of these exist. A 20 m² queen room with a private terrace from 6 m². Rare find at the hotel and books quickly. Same standard amenities, bonus outdoor space.

Two separate beds for sharers or travelling colleagues. Runs 19–23 m² with the same design finish as the rest of the Medium tier — organic amenities, big TV, 5-star linen.

The biggest rooms in the house at 37–56 m², sleeping up to four people. A king-size bed plus a 140×200 sofa bed, a 55-inch TV screen, ample storage for the whole group, and — the one thing standard rooms lack — a coffee machine and kettle. If you're travelling as a family or a group of four, this is the only configuration that makes sense.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Live DJ sets every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening from approximately 20:30 in the restaurant. The Mama Afterwork runs every Thursday from 18:30–22:30. No additional charge — included with dining or drinks.
Multiple private karaoke rooms in the basement, bookable for groups of up to 12 people. Available every day, but Thursday to Saturday and public holidays carry a per-person fee. Must book online via the Work & Celebrate section.
Fitness centre open daily 8AM–8PM. Hotel guests only — no external access.
Five fully equipped meeting rooms (Ateliers) plus two lounge spaces, adaptable for business seminars, kick-offs, and private celebrations. One lounge room is 37 m² and holds up to 15 people, equipped with Clickshare wireless presentation, Bose sound system, TV screen, and mini fridge.
The full Sunday brunch runs 12:00–16:00 in the panoramic restaurant. All-you-can-eat buffet at €42/adult and €21/child (4–12 years). A nanny service is available for kids on reservation. Brunch is paused mid-July to late August. Live entertainment on Sunday evenings at 19€/person (Super Sunday set menu).
