The Sunday Lunch at Deessa (€158/pp with Cava) is worth booking even if you're not a hotel guest — it's an institution among Madrid's social set.

Why It Matters

One of Spain's oldest luxury hotels, restored to palace-level opulence with a €100 million renovation. Deessa by Quique Dacosta holds two Michelin stars. The Palm Court's restored glass ceiling is one of Madrid's great interior spaces. Royals, heads of state, and celebrities have checked in since 1910 — and still do.

Opened in 1910 at the behest of King Alfonso XIII, the Mandarin Oriental Ritz stands across the street from the Prado Museum in Madrid's so-called Golden Triangle of Art. It was Spain's first steel-framed building, and it looks nothing like one — the Belle Époque facade and the crystal-ceilinged Palm Court have both been painstakingly restored after a three-year, €100 million renovation completed in 2021 under French designers Gilles & Boissier. It's a proper grand-hotel experience: private butlers for every room, a two Michelin-star restaurant helmed by Quique Dacosta, a subterranean pool lit to mimic Madrid's night sky, and Sunday lunch that Madrid's well-heeled have been attending for generations.
